Specific Sections at the Neuroscience Center:
- Brain Stimulation section:
it includes four stations for rTMS (repetitive Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation) and one for tDCS (transcranial Direct Current Stimulation). In addition it provides workup and dose calibration for VNS (Vagus Nerve Stimulation) and Ketamine infusions facilitated by TMS. The rTMS treatments are based on Dr. Best’s extensive clinical experience with them (these treatments have been provided on the premises since 1999).
For more information about brain stimulation, please read the latest health news of Using Electricity, Magnets for Mental Illness from The Wall Street Journal, Jan 11, 2011.
- Brain SPECT (Single Photon Emission Computed Tomography) is provided by PathFinder Brain SPECT which is located on the premises and uses a triple head Gamma Camera and advanced computers and image processing software. Dr. Pavel is the Director of this Section and provides the interpretation for Brain SPECT studies. The Section has the capability of providing multimodality image registration (ex. Brain SPECT coregistered to MRI) as well as SPECT to SPECT registration, for follow-up evaluations. It is also possible to import Brain SPECT studies from outside for second opinion readings. http://www.pathfinder-brain-spect.net
- EEG (Electro Encephalogram) section: located on the premises has state of the art EEG instrumentation, computers and software. The EEG procedure is performed under the supervision of Dr. Hughes who also provides the interpretation. The lab has the capability to accept EEG-s in electronic format from outside, for "second opinion" readings by Dr. Hughes.
- Neuropsychological testing is mostly provided by Dr. L. Koziol, off site and, is followed by detailed communications and exchange of information with Dr. Best. http://www.hostzone.com/koziol
